Welcome to The British Islamic Nursery - where we follow the British Government guidelines as the basis of our Curriculum and teaching practises. We also adopt Islamic values in our everyday lives to help your children grow to be well-rounded children academically, emotionally and spiritually.

Home Learning Goals
Early Learning Goals

No matter what age your child is, they will receive the best care at the nursery.  Children are grouped by age, but their  abilities are taken into consideration.  Your child will receive individualized care, whether that's helping them to reach a learning goal or keeping them challenged if they are more advanced.

All of our classes have an an English and Arabic teacher (except babies). Daily curriculum includes English and Arabic lessons, numbers, letters, shapes, animals, Islamic studies, and educational songs or rhymes.  The children also have outdoor time, art expression, learning centers, and watch educational videos. We have weekly topics, followed by trips which we hope will reflect that topic.

Babies - 1 month to walking independently

Babies receive only the best of loving care at The British Islamic Nursery.  They are on a feeding, changing and sleeping schedule which helps to regulate their days and provides a calming schedule.  They also have time to play of course, the teachers read and play games with the babies to help them with their fine and gross motor skills.  We also use flashcards to introduce letters, shapes, and pictures at this stage.  Quran and Nasheed will also be presented to your babies.  Physical well-being is also addressed with the introduction of gentle massage and posture positioning.  Our goal is to develop and grow your baby, to help them reach their full potential even at this young age.

Toddlers - Ages 1 (walking age) to 3 years

Toddlers are always on the go, Mashallah.  We like to keep them involved in activities that keep them active and help them to learn.  Each day we have set aside time for art and sensory play.  During art time, the children work with a variety of tools that help them refine their fine motor skills.  These include, paint brushes, scissors (with the teachers help of course!), crayons, markers, and much more.  This helps the children to express themselves and they are always proud to see their work hanging up in the room once they have finished.  Sensory play helps the children understand the world around them.  This includes activities like smelling flowers, or blowing bubbles.  Here are some of the skills your toddler will be learning while in the Toddler Room:

  • Potty Training
  • Feeding self
  • Using pencil and paper
  • Balancing when walking and running
  • Speaking and listening

Upper Foundation

Upper Foundation children are preparing for entering school.  That is why they are learning all the skills necessary to make them successful in a school classroom.  Emphasis is given to developing independent thinking and creative problem solving. We also focus on personal behaviour patterns and in showing dignity and respect to their peer groups.

Jolly Phonics is used to help the children recognize sounds, letter relationships and word formation.  Please refer to the Head Teacher for more information regarding the Jolly Phonics system.

All of our teaching is through play and is child centered, meaning that the power lies with the children and not in the teachers hands.  Parents will receive regular feedback as well as attend parent sessions:

  • Reading
  • Recognize colors and shapes
  • Writing letters and numbers
  • Simple Math/Science

Incorporating Islam

We believe teaching Islam is not only about learning the basic duties such as praying.  It is teaching the children manners, as well as cleanliness, and remembrance of Allah.  Something as simple as having the children wash their hands and say bismillah before they eat, teaches them how to act as Muslims on a daily basis.  Mashallah, all of our teachers are Muslims and are committed to the practice of Islamic Adhab.
